MARGHERITA GONZAGA

Margherita Gonzaga (1418-1439) was the daughter of Gianfrancesco Gonzaga, Lord of Mantua, and Paola Agnese Malatesta. Le was given the name of paternal grandmother Margaret Malatesta. Seized and lover of art [1], was given in marriage in 1435 to Leonello d'Este, Marquis of Ferrara. As early as 1429 Nicholas III d'Este, eager to forge ties with Gonzaga, began negotiations with Gianfrancesco, who agreed to the union on condition that Leonello be recognized, although it was illegitimate son, the future Marquis of Ferrara [2]. He gave birth to a son only: Nicholas (1438-1476).
The already poor health, Margherita debilitò further because of childbirth and died a year later. Addolorato for the loss of his wife, Leonello assumed in its teaches spears and broken branches [3]. In 1444 it risposò with Mary of Aragon, a daughter of Alfonso V of Aragon [4].
