Ferrara Balloons Festival
Parco Urbano “Bassani” Ferrara
A great venue for pilots and visitors. The competitions will follow the "Fox Hunting " scheme: in free flight (not tied by ropes), the “fox” balloon takes off and, after an hour, all the others try to join it.
The highlight of the event will take place on Saturday evening, when a spectacular flight of lighted balloons will colour the dark sky.
A “village” with gastronomic stalls and sell of air sport equipment will also be set.

Garofalo. The painter of the Este Court
Estense Castle Ferrara
It's the first grand exhibition to be organised by Ermitage Italia Foundation and is laid out in the fascinating interior of the Estense Castle, in homage to the Renaissance era, when Ferrara was one of the principal cultural capitals of Europe. The show is dedicated to Benvenuto Tisi da Garofalo, the 16th century ferrarese painter, known as "Ferrara's Raphael". Garofalo is little researched, but many aspects of his workinfluenced the subsequent course of the Ferrarese school in the first half of the 16th century. The exhibition includes important loans from London, Berlin, Dresden, and obviously from the collection of the Ermitage itself in St. Petersburg - in this case, three exceptional large paintings, produced by Garofalo for the monastery of San Bernardino in 1530.

Palio of Ferrara
Palio of Ferrara
The Palio was made official in 1279 and rapidly transformed into the symbol of a glorious and fascinating Renaissance. Since then rituals and dates have only changed slightly, celebration in the town has not been altered. A month of celebrations, parades, races and competitions between the eight Contrade [quarters tied to the parish] to win the precious drape dedicated to Saint George, the patron saint of Ferrara. The already warm month of May welcomes the figurants in original costume who parade through the streets of the city centre and the hard-fought flag-throwing competitions in Piazza del Municipio take us up to the spectacular horse race in Piazza Ariostea.

Turner and Italy
Palazzo Diamanti C.so Ercole I d'Este, 21 Ferrara
The style of this great English painter from the British Romantic movement had a significant influence on the Impressionists because of the emotional charge in his landscapes and the relationship between colour and light. During his travels in Italy, Turner roughed out sketches and watercolours that later became the works known as his Italian paintings, characterised by comparatively light colours
